Type Locality and Naming

The type section is located at Malucun Village, south of Sipai Town, Luzhai County, Guangxi. It was named by Feng Jinlan in 1929.

Synonym: Sipai Shale


Lithology and Thickness

Shale. The formation, 149 m thick, is characterized by yellowish-green calcareous shale, siltstone and sandy mudstone intercalated with thin-bedded sandstone and lenses of limestone.


Lithology Pattern:

Lower contact

Its lower boundary is unclear. But next older unit on this chart column (Hongfei Hou, Apr 2021) is Luma Fm

Next higher unit on this chart column (Hongfei Hou, Apr 2021) is Yingtang Fm

Regional extent

The formation is distributed at the area of Luzhai and Jinxiu.

The formation contains the Otospirifer-Athyrisina Assemblage Zone in the lower part and the Euryspirifer shujiapingensis Acme Zone in the upper part.
